Work of Ukrainian Composer Shchetynskyi to be First Performed at the Festival in the USA

03.06.2010
Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s Open Ukraine Foundation has provided famous Ukrainian composer Oleksandr Shchetynsky with a travel grant. At the New Paths in Music festival in New York to be organized on June 7-11 the composer will present his Clarinet and Chamber Band Concerto, written specifically for the festival. The world premiere of this work will be performed by the famous clarinettist Alan Kay and New Paths in Music band under direction of David Miller.

The New Paths in Music festival is the annual event organized in the USA by the eponymous not-for-profit organization. The organizers’ main goal is presenting music of living non-American composers, authors of classical music from around the world whose music has rarely or never been performed in the United States.

The 2010 festival is dedicated to the music of composers from the following ex-Soviet republics: Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

Oleksandr Shchetynsky was born in 1960 in Kharkiv, graduated from the Kharkiv Arts Institute, attended the composers’ school and master classes in Poland and Denmark. He won six international composers’ contests in Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France and Luxemburg with his orchestra and vocal compositions. Shchetynsky is the author of 100 pieces of art: operas, vocal symphonic and choral compositions as well as chamber ensemble and solo compositions.
